ABOUT

I'm a business savvy actress in New York City.

I'm fortunate enough to make a living doing what I love the most: acting, and helping other artists make their dreams a reality.

I share what I know through producing, social media, & networking and I'm rewarded by the incredible results we achieve together. I bring these skills and my fervent passion to every project I'm in onstage or behind the scenes.

REVIEWS

"They all have important roles to play, and play them very well, but the evanescent [Morgan] McGuire and trash-talking [Erica Lauren] McLaughlin turn in the very best performances". -Theater Is Easy.com on The Last Days of Judas Iscariot

"Among the big supporting cast, a standout is Erica McLaughlin as Hero's father, Leonato. The cross-gender casting might distract some theatergoers at first, but this actor captures the essential quality of Leonato as a parent whose firm authority seems increasingly shaky as the domestic world is turned upside down by all the crazy developments." -Baltimore Sun, re: Much Ado About Nothing

"T. Schreiber Studio's production of Lanford Wilson's Balm in Gilead is superlative in every way. There's not a richer or more rewarding work of theatre anywhere in town right now...The company assembled is without peer on any stage in NYC right now."- Martin Denton, NYTheatre.com

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Susan McCully
    Dramturg, Lecturer, Playwright,UMBC

"Erica McLaughlin--very smart, but even more imaginative. Those qualities are dwarfed by her drive. And here is the kickers, she is also a thoughtful, emphatic and kind person. One of the most impressive, all around people you will ever work with."

  • Jamil Mangan
    Professional Actor | Director

"Erica McLaughlin is the future of Performing Arts Administration & Consulting Services. She is progressively profound, idealistic, and a leader in her industry. McLaughlin is an innovative Artistic Entrepreneur with a focus on community building, selflessly giving to others. It is in my professional opinion that Erica is an asset to any Performing Arts Institution. "

  • Mike Smith Rivera
    Director, Burning Clown Productions

"Erica was the lead actress in my short film, Cold April, and a peerless professional. She consistently brought forth excellence, exuded class, and inspired the other actors to elevate their performances. She has a knack for publicity and has selflessly devoted herself towards the spreading of the message of the film. I consider myself very fortunate for having worked with her and look forward to collaborating with her again."

  • Nicholas Wiggins
Manager, External Relations & Special Projects, NAACP

"Erica is an asset to any team or organization that has the privilege of having her. She brings an energy to each discussion that empowers individuals to work harder and strive to achieve objectives. She personifies professionalism and sincerity and these unique traits make her an invaluable member of the team."

  • Regina Robbins
    Producer, 4 Time Jeopardy Champion

"Erica is a high-energy, positive, proactive person whose natural ability to connect with people obviously informs her work as a performer, customer service provider, and producer."

BIO

Erica Lauren McLaughlin is an actress and consultant with a passion for youth activism. As an actress, she has performed on stage at the John F. Kennedy Center (DC), Rep Stage (MD), the New York Fringe Festival, PS 122 (NY), T. Schreiber Studio (NY), Gene Frankel Theater (NY), American Theatre for Actors (NY), Atlas Performing Arts Center (DC), Theatre Project (Baltimore), Queens Theater in the Park (NY) UMBC, among others. As a playwright, she received the 2001 National ACT-SO gold medal for playwriting, and her plays have been produced at the Mobtown Theatre in Baltimore, in the Inaugural Capital Fringe Festival, and at Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY. Erica is former Managing Director of the Unmentionable Theatre Company of Baltimore, MD, a socially conscious theatre troupe which is comprised of members all under the age of 30. A well-rounded theatre artist, Erica is also trained as a puppeteer, dancer, and improviser.

Erica graduated cum laude from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in May 2006 with a BFA in Acting. A continuing student, Erica has since studied as several prestigious acting schools including the Shakespeare Theater Company and HB Studio, and most recently with the renowned T. Schreiber Studio. While at T. Schreiber Studio, Erica appeared in the 2010 New York Innovative Theater Award winner for Outstanding Production Balm in Gilead, written by the late Lanford Wilson. She is also the lead of the film Cold April, a short film about the genocide in Rwanda and winner of several awards in the Chicago Intl Film Festival, International Black Film Fest of Nashville, and the New Orleans film fest, to name a few.

Erica is currently Chief Operating Officer at branding and production company, Tranquil Water NY Inc. Erica’s need to establish her own brand has proven invaluable in the role of COO where she utilizes her lessons learned to help TWNY’s clients establish distinct, recognizable and endurable brands. As a social media and marketing consultant she has facilitated and managed projects for Theatre Development Fund/Tickets (TKTS), Grammy Nominated artist Rayvon, rapper Cuban Link, Alliance of Resident Theaters/New York (ART/NY), University of Maryland’s Department of Theatre, Arizona State University's P.A.V.E. program, IT TV NYC, Endure: A Run Woman Show, The Dark Lady Players, Hair Styling by Joseph, and The Artist Office. She has consulted with numerous individual artists on the business of theater.

Erica is a former member of the NAACP National Board of Directors, where she represented youth advocates from MD, VA and DC. As a youth organizer, she has executed many successful civil rights campaigns, including organizing a 2006 rally on Capitol Hill of 700 youth to support the reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act, and writing and delivering the obituary at the “Funeral for the “N” Word in 2007 in Detroit Michigan. Erica doesn’t see her activism and community service as separate from her career as an artist. In fact, playwright William Inge summed up Erica McLaughlin’s diverse passions best, saying, “Theatre is, of course, a reflection of life. Maybe we have to improve life before we can hope to improve theatre.”
